Learn-Do-Teach: A Values Exploration Workshop in 3 parts for health and helping professionals
Are you wanting to implement values activities into your work but aren’t sure how?
Learn and experience a method of values exploration and a framework to use in practice, developed and delivered by a multiply neurodivergent occupational therapist.
What makes you feel proud? What do you feel strongly about? What kind of person do you want to be? What’s important to you?
Values are about how you want to behave or act, and how you want to treat yourself, others and the world around you. They are not about what you want to get or achieve and they are not goals. They can be like a roadmap, give our lives meaning, and give us something to move towards.
When we know our values, we can make more conscious and values aligned choices about how we want to live our lives and show up in the world. I strongly believe in the value and importance of this work and have personally experienced the costs and lack of direction that can come with not having clarity about my values.
Over the past 3 years I have been developing a method and framework for values exploration and am now ready to share it so that other health professionals can use it!
Values work is a powerful clinical tool that I use in practice. It helps people tune into what matters to them and where they want to go. As health professionals, I think it is also important that we do our own values work regularly, to check alignment and make adjustments as needed. I frequently review my values, go through this process, check how aligned I am with my values, and set values-aligned action steps.
You can read more about the background and my development process in this blog version of a poster presentation from the OTNZ-WNA conference 2023 - Values as a guiding force supporting engagement and meaning-making.
It has been an iterative development process, using co-creation and including lived experience perspectives.
